Update

Missy Update

Note from Kathy Riggs (daughter-in-law)

Missy ( 9 years old shorthair pointer) is a great addition to Joe's life at a time when his present dog is near the end of his life. Joe is always saying "she is such a great dog and she really cares for me." He takes her on errands and to hang out with his buddies. These are all things he could not do anymore with Jack because he is so old and not very mobile anymore. Losing Jack is going to be so hard on Joe, we feel Missy will help him though this terrible time. He has taught Missy to sing along to a old bluegrass song about a man and his dog, Missy has her own solo during this song and never misses her cue to howl! They are great together and we so appreciate Senior dogs 4 Seniors! I don't think Joe and Jack ever had this much fun together!

Tippy Update

Note from Rosemary and Jay Pauk

Leo (Tippy 3 years old maltese) is a complete JOY. He is so good, so cute and so much fun.

The neighbors, our kids, grandkids, and friends all love him.

One daughter got a 3 1/2 yr old Schitzu (??) mix a month before we got Leo, the daughter who was looking for a golden retriever brought her 7 wk old from a breeder in Union home last Saturday, our granddaughter adopted a 3 1/2 yr old, 50 pound mix after finding Duchess while volunteering at the Humane Society as a "dog walker", so our family now has 3 new dogs. But we got the Best.

Jay has been teaching Leo tricks. He bought a book called DOG TRAINING FOR DUMMIES. He has taught him to roll over for a cheerio. Then worked pretty long to get him to jump through a 10" hoop. He loves the applause (and the cheerios) he gets for his effort.

He comes when called...stays out of the bedroom area and living room when we say, STAY.

When he gets tired, he goes in his kennel and rests. Takes his last trip outside about 10 p.m., comes in and goes right to bed. We put the gate across his room, so he just stays in there until we get up about 6:00.

Jay has mastered bathing him in a tub in the downstairs shower. The groomer said to take a soft tooth brush with warm water and that helps take off the drainage from his eye. Leo is not too happy when Jay tries that. The groomer did a little better but not much.

He had his first clipping two weeks ago from a woman who was recommended to us from the lady who found him when he ran away and took him to her vet. She also has a Maltese.

Leo was scratching so much and the Vet said not to get him that Flea & Tick pill, so "Kay" told us to try giving him a tsp. of peanut butter twice a day for two weeks and then a tsp every other day after that. That seems to help a lot and Leo loves it.

We feed him nothing from the table; that was a big mistake we did years ago with our poodle.

We are so grateful that we have him. He is such a joy and he is so happy, especially when Jay pulls in the garage after being gone all day at work. He loves both of us, but favors Jay as he spends more time with him, cleans up after him outside and they spend hours just sitting downstairs watching TV or sitting outside.

Couple weeks ago we had to replace A/C and furnace. The owner of company and his two sons (who did all the labor) thought he was great. The one young one who is getting married next week, said that is the kind of dog he would like to get, since he is so cute, so soft and well behaved. It was a long couple of days for me, though, since they were in and out of the basement with the old equipment and the new so while the outside gate was open I had to stay mostly in the backyard with Leo or in my computer room with Leo on a leash all day so he would not run away.

On Father's Day he thought the party here was for him. He showed off and jumped from l lap to another. He was so playful and loved all the attention.

Didn't mean to make this so long. But you can tell...he has definitely added a lot to our lives. We thank you for letting us have our Leo.

Watson Update

Note from Laura Williams (wife of grandson)

Senior Dogs 4 Seniors is a wonderful organization. They fill a great void in pet adoption. My husband's grandmother's dog died and we tried for months to find just the right pet for her. We visited many shelters and adoption groups only to be rejected because of grandma's age. Surfing the web one morning I came upon Senior Dogs 4 Seniors' website. I was thrilled and immediately contacted Diane. We discussed our desire and what we 'needed' in a pet. Watson was a recent 'rescue' and fell in love with him as I looked at his picture on the website.

We quickly set up a meeting time to visit and get acquainted with each other. Grandma was thrilled. She asked when she could adopt Watson, and their response was, "We can leave him with you now if you wish." Grandma was brought to tears of joy. Watson now named Jake and grandma are a perfect match. They love each other dearly, but most of all they need each other. I want to thank Senior Dogs 4 Seniors for giving Jake a good home and for bringing our grandmother so much joy.

Tiki Update

Note from Gwen (daughter)

Tiki ( 9 year old miniature pincher )is doing wonderful! My mom was just commenting the other day that it feels like he has been part of the family for much, much longer than a month. He's been a very good boy - also had a "get acquainted" visit to the vet and received a clean bill of health . Tiki is so used to my mom being home that when she does leave, he really gets sad. So, if possible, Tiki goes with her on errands. I'm attaching a picture from a BBQ last weekend at my cousin's house. As you can see, Tiki was in his favorite spot :) Tiki has given my mom reason to go out for walks which is great since she had both hips replaced last year. While on these walks, they have also met many people in the neighborhood which is wonderful for my mom. Thank you for such a wonderful program -- Tiki is the best!

Please feel free to use any of my comments for your article. All the best to you!

Wyle Girl Update

Note from Krista

I was just coming to my email to write you and found that you beat me to the punch . Wyle is doing great. She's really settling into the routine. Eric takes her out each morning when he get's up. And, it's like she's telling us, "Do we really have to get up this early?" She goes right back to her bed after that and sleeps for a little while longer. Then before I leave for work I take her on a nice 10-15 minute walk. I think she really enjoys that part of the day (before it gets too hot and when there's lots to see). Eric comes home around 3 each day and they spend time together until I get home. And, each night we take her on a walk, either around the neighborhood or in the park.

We've found that she is afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. The past week has been a little stressful for her with all the fireworks. We're looking forward to evenings without fireworks .

We took her to Carlyle Lake, where we camped with my parents this past weekend. We set up the tent and she decided that it was hers. She liked spending time in there on our air mattress. But, she also liked walking around the campgrounds and looking at the boats on the lake.

Right now we're looking for a house and we think we may have found a place in Affton. The house has a large backyard that's fenced in. It also has a deck where she can relax. The whole house is covered in wood floors, but I think she'll learn to adapt (she's adapted to the wood floors in our current bedroom).

So, all in all, Wyle's doing great. She's great with the cats and kids too. She's our perfect dog!

Robie Update

Note from Connie

It's been two weeks today since Robie moved in with me, and we've gotten into a pretty good routine together. In these two weeks, Robie learned how to navigate my front steps and walk very nicely on a leash. So it looks like you can teach an old dog new tricks! He makes me laugh when he runs across the yard to me and his ears flap up and down. He likes to snooze on his little bed in my family room, and after dinner he enjoys being brushed and petted. I'd forgotten how good it makes you feel to have a pet to care for. It's nice to have such a gentle little guy in the house with me.

Mimi Update

Hi;

Well, today is 2 weeks since we took Mimi home. She went to the beauty shop. The lady suggested that we check her ears out. Went to our vet and he pulled lots of hair out of her ears. The smell was uckyyyyyy. He gave us some meds to put in her ear after we cleaned them. As of today they are much better. You should see my husband and I playing nurse... Mimi is great at letting us treat her. She's do darn CUTE..... Our other rescue dog is adjusting ( I think).. Molly will be the Alfa dog ... Of course we are the ALFA supreme. The potty training is still a work in progress. Just when we think we have it she leave a puddle in front of her crate. Any suggestions. I check your web-site all the time. Just want to see who you are taking care of , Fiona looked nice. But I an forbidden to go the any dog rescue place. DARN.... I hope you keep in touch.

Brook Update

Hi Diane and David: Just wanted to update you on Brooke. Brooke is doing
wonderful and becoming quiet a mama's dog. Brooke just follows all of us,
but especially me everywhere I go at home. Brooke loves to go for walks,
but she especially loves to sit on your lap and watch TV, and she really
enjoys going for rides in the car. We are training her to be a real
Cardinal's fan. We weren't sure how Brooke would get along with our two
cats, but they do fine. I think the cats were more afraid of her than
anything. We are so grateful for the joy that Brooke has brought into our
home.

Bradley Update

He is doing wonderfully. We had a few accidents but he is getting the rhythm of the bathroom schedule. We got him some new toys and he thinks they are great. I had him out in the yard running with the Border Collie. He thought that was big fun. They are getting along great as well. They are both very shy, which is pretty funny at times. We had to abandon him being in his own crate because he was getting lonely. He is now bunking with the Border Collie and seems to be doing fine. It was good to hear from you and we will try to get the camera and Bradley in action.
Chris and Melody

Bridget Update

Lily (new name for Bridget) is doing great! Still very skittish, but likes it once we get her picked up and start petting her. Our son from college came today, so she has more company in the day which is good. She has been staying the day in the bathroom with the light on and the crate open and seemed fine. She is warming up to us -- following us but then running away when we turn around! Maybe I will bring her to visit you on Sat. -- will you be there? I need to do a little "shopping". Thanks -- Doris

JoJo Update

Thought you might like a quick up-date: Button (nee JoJo) has adapted well to her newest home. At first she spent lots of time in her crate, and still retreats to it in response to sudden loud noises, strangers, or seeing me with nail-clippers or camera in hand. Otherwise, she has become my true companion...following me from room to room (except when I vacuum), sharing the sofa with me when we watch TV or read, and sleeping right next to me at night though she does have an official bed of her own. She loves speeding around the yard when it's not too cool or raining, but still is not real confident when on the leash--any loud noise and she wants to make a beeline for home. I have attached the only picture I have been able to catch, as she stopped dead in her tracks and ran straight for the kitchen door when she noticed the camera. I do have one question...did you ever hear her bark? So far she has not voiced one opinion and I am beginning to wonder about that...Thank you so much for fostering her and entrusting her to my care! Doris
